3 Different Approaches to Managing Stress and Anxiety - Meditation, Reiki/ Healing, EFT
Reiki/HealingReiki (pronounced ray-key) is an ancient method of healing thought to have originated in Tibet and has spread throughout the US and Europe over the last 30 years.
The healing energy that exists in the body becomes depleted when you are sick or stressed. Reiki helps increase and balance that flow of energy activating the body’s natural ability to heal.
Whilst Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a cult, belief system or philosophy. Reiki is not dependent on belief and will work whether you believe in it or not.
Reiki is a safe, natural and holistic way of treating many acute and chronic conditions. It works in harmony with all other treatments or therapies. Reiki is received fully clothed while you lay on a couch. I work by placing my hands in various positions either on or slightly above your body. You may feel a warmth or tingling as I work and a general feeling of relaxation.
Reiki has many uses that include relief of stress, depression and anxiety; promoting inner calm and well being; it can ease pain and help heal injuries.
A session lasts about an hour.

Practical Meditation
In day-to-day life it is natural to find our thoughts racing from one thing to another in endless circles. This constant unfocused activity often feels very draining, so much so that we crave a quiet place, a refuge, - a place with some stillness and solitude away from activity. Learn meditation and you can have this relaxation and tranquility, anytime, anywhere.
Meditation is a deeply personal practice that takes many forms. This can be simply from the focus of a mantra, observing a candle flame or the breath, to using visualisations which can lead to higher realms of consciousness. Whatever the level or type of meditation you choose the results can be similar, that of a deep sense of well being and a feeling of relaxation and release of stress. You can learn to have more control over the feelings and emotions that disrupt or disturb your peace of mind or prevent you from obtaining what you want from life.
Meditation is a discipline that can with practice be used anywhere and at anytime. Just 15-20 minutes a day can produce profound results.
Research has shown that regular meditation can not only have a affect on general well being and stress and energy levels but it has also been proven to show improvement in medical conditions such as:
I take a practical approach to teaching meditation using techniques that you will be able to adapt for use in your daily life whether it be using a quiet time at home, on the move or in the workplace. My technique for teaching meditation is not based on any particular philosophy, culture or religion.
Individual tuition has several advantages:
Emotional Freedom Technique
EFT (or the Emotional Freedom Technique) is based on a new discovery that has provided thousands with relief from pain, diseases and emotional issues. Simply stated, it is an emotional version of acupuncture except needles aren’t necessary. Instead, well known energy meridian points on the body are stimulated by tapping on them with the fingertips. The process is easy to memorize and can be carried out anywhere. It was Roger Callahan, a clinical psychologist in the mid 1980s who first discovered the technique, which was later refined and simplified by Gary Craig, an N.L.P. Master who called the following his Discovery Statement:-
"The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system."
And because our physical pains and diseases are so obviously connected with our emotions the following statement has also proven to be true.
"Our unresolved negative emotions are major contributors to most physical pains and diseases."
This common sense approach draws its power from time-honoured Eastern healing methods that have been around for over 5,000 years, and also Albert Einstein, who told us back in the 1920s that everything, including our bodies, is composed of energy.
EFT often works where nothing else will.
Who is it suitable for?
EFT can be adapted for use for everyone, whatever their age or condition.
How does it work?
Any negative emotion causes a disruption in the smooth flow of energy through our bodies. We know this for example if we are given bad news; we may go weak at the knees, or even faint. The memory of severe or prolonged disruption is held in our body so that every time anything similar to the original event occurs, we feel that same reaction, even if we know it is no longer appropriate. For instance, perhaps we were once humiliated in front of a class at school and now fear making presentations at work in case it happens again.
What happens during a session?
After initial discussion and some introductory work, you will be is asked to decide on the problem that is causing you the most trouble and a statement/affirmation is made three times in order to focus your attention on the particular emotion that it is bringing up. A series of acupressure points are then tapped by you following my example. As you do this you repeat a reminder phrase to keep you focused. You may feel that emotion clear away, and if there is any underlying emotion that will then surface to be dealt with similarly. The process continues until you reach a point where you feel relaxed and relieved. As we work together you may find that you have gained an insight into the problem and what caused it.
And after that?
Positive change in the first session is always expected and it is unusual for anyone to need a prolonged period of treatment but at least one follow-up appointment is always recommended. With time, even with relatively straight forward problems, different aspects may arise, and it is much more beneficial to get rid of these with EFT than bury them and store up further problems for the future.
After the first session you will be able to start using EFT to help yourself.
